Hi there

We want to have a wireless system in the flat, me & OH have a PC windows 2000 rigged up to tesco broadband via a BT line.

My lodger has a laptop and also a "netgear 54 mbps wireless memory card.

If we bought this BT BT Voyager 2110 and Voyager 1055 USB Adapter Bundle ( sorry the website wont link properly ) http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/car119

WILL IT WORK - yes or no?

If so I'll get it ( somewhere cheaper) if not then what other simple thing can we get instead, so she can use the internet on her laptop

This Ive come to know...

If the main PC has a network card, and is near the phone point, you just need a wireless adsl router (I prefer Netgear to BT (e.g. Netgear DG834G), and it should cost around £60, not 110. You don't need the extra wireless cards in this package.

In other words you could use a wired connection, and the lodger could use their existing wireless card, and the two wireless adapters in this package are redundant.

If you don't have a normal network card built into your PC, they cost about a fiver from https://www.ebuyer.com

woot! knew we could agree on something albertross :)

I'd have a netgear ahead of a bt router every time.

I have a dg834 and it's real easy to set up , the instructions are full proof, although it does have it's quirks.. (mine likes to be unplugged whenever you add a new comp to the network), it's a real easy to use, reliable router :)

I have Belkin wireless router here, they are on special offer in a few places currently, I can recommend their lifetime warranty and free tech support, they ops are really patient and know how to explain things in an easy to understand manner for the none technical people amongst us.

Yes it will work, but you are buying a router, and two wireless cards. If you have a network card in the PC already

, and it is near the phone point the 2 cards are not needed, so just buy a plain old wireless adsl router. Plug the PC into the router with the supplied network cable, your lodger can use the wireless card he/she already has.
