Why are your parents organising loft insulation? Again concerns need to be expressed to the landlord in writing, and Environmental Health involved if there is not a satisfactory response. Really, it's probably time to look at moving on - I am guessing your parents are now only on a rolling monthly contract?

It could still be condensation: all my windows are steamed up right now as a result of cooking (lid on pan most of the time) - the problem with this property is metal window frames which act as cold bridges.

It turns out it is not just the kitchen that is a problem. My parents arranged for someone to come out and install loft insulation. Well, they came out today and went up into the loft, came back down saying he cant do it because the loft is so damp and theres concrete (?!) everywhere!

    Concrete in the loft???

    Concrete in the loft???

Yes!:confused: I have no idea!

Firefox they were doing it because someone knocked on the door telling them about it and since they are on benefits at the minute they can get it cheap or free or something like that. So they thought they would, silly really. I think they should move too, they were offered a house a few months ago from the council but my Mum was on holiday at the time and my Dad and sister didnt think to open her mail! So missed out on that one. Hopefully they can find something else because this house doesnt sound good at all.

So ....damp/condensation probs, maybe affecting electrical system
    Poor insulation
    No gas safety check/certificate
    Deposit not registered

As your parents are on benefits they can get help with legal advice. Suggest to them that they contact Community Legal Services 0845 345 4 345 link who can give them initial telephone advice and put them in touch with a local solicitor/law centre/CAB. They need to get that deposit registered to lessen the likelihood of problems getting it back when they do move out. Alternatively, 0808 800 4444 (Shelter) and/or the Tenancy Relations Officer at the local Council. Am assuming that your parents are not elderly , as you mention that your sister is still living with them, so ultimately all you can do is pass info on to them and encourage them to get things sorted for themselves.

    Thanks tbs.
I will link them to this thread to read it for themselves.
My Mum is the kind to not want to rock the boat in these kinds of things so it may be up to my Dad to sort it all out but if he knows what he should be doing and asking for then that is better so he is prepared.
