Oil drum barbeque dilemma

Options
Please help.
I have built an oil drum barbe for my sons first b'day party bash which is on sunday. I am struggling to get hold of a mesh/grill and hotplate for the top. Can anyone sugest somewhere i may be able to purchase one from. I know stainless steel will be expensive , but it will last and mild steel will rust. I am stuck a sto what to use. Don't want to poison anyone using wrong metal.

You can always contact an engineering manufacturing company (those tackling small welding/mechanical jobs for larger companies (yellow pages), The mesh is not a problem for them nor is Stainless Steel or mild steel plate. You can get an off-cut for £20. None of them will poison your guests. The mil;d steel will rust....so what.....brush it with a wire brush when hot and it will be like new.

Put some cheap wire mesh above the charcoal, then put some trays from cooker grill pans on that, to actually cook the food on.
