Safety is relative. A lot of UK institutions are unlikely to go under. Some are more safe than others.

I wouldn't, personally. Why take the risk? There are so many accounts out there you have no need to put all your eggs in one basket0

I wouldnt either, but as I have said in other threads, its up to each persons individual attitude to risk. I need to sleep at night and am a real worrier. Worried myself silly over Bradford and Bingley a couple of years ago OK came good but the crystal ball would have been handy. Things are still very delicate I feel0
