HSBC Travel Insurance

We have free Travel Insurance through our First Direct account.
In all my years, fortunately I have never had to make a claim. However we went to Bavaria in Spetember and both our cases were lost by KLM/Baggage handlers for 3 days. Staying in an apartment we had nothing but the clothes on our backs. Fortunately, I had taken our travel insurance with us and read we could claim if we were without luggage for more than 24 hours.
Obviously we had to buy toiletries, underwear, clothes etc. Kept all the receipts ready to make a claim when we got home. The only thing that worried me was we had nothing to say when we got our bags back as they were delivered by German courier where we had to sign the electronic device.
When I phoned HSBC when we got home the girl said we would need to obtain confirmation of when we got our bags back from KLM. I therefore emailed KLM for this information. I sent all the claim off in the meantime, then a couple of days later received the email from KLM confirming date and time of receipt of both bags. I therefore telephoned HSBC again to ask for an email address so I could forward this information, only to be told the claim had already been paid! I was gobsmacked.
You read so much especially about Travel Insurance and how they look for every loophole I was really expecting a battle and yet I was very pleasantly surprised.
I emailed HSBC to thank them for their efficient and speedy service and a Manager phoned me to thank me for my comments!
