You say you have protection on the card - so claim on it. But be quick about it.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

yes, if you had payment protection then surely you're covered aren't you? If not, then (as above) can't you even make a small token payment or get a fiver off a friend just to cover you. You really don't want it going off to the bailliffs...0

A token payment. ?
I have not got in touch at all.
so this would be better getting in touch?
For gods sake, speak to them and explain your situation! Just ignoring any communication won't be doing you any favours.
Were you made redundant from your last job? If so that's what PPI is there for.0 -
Absolutely call them!
01642663800 is the number I use, it goes straight through to an agent (albeit in India or wherever), and just explain you are suffering financial hardship and you can offer a token payment until you get your feet back on the ground.
If they won't accept a token payment of say £5 there on the call and £5 a month therafter, ask for their address and write to them straight away enclosing income and expenditure in writing and an offer. Also advise the telephone agent refused your offer, if indeed this does happen. Don't be bullied into making a payment you can't afford, be steadfast in the amount you can pay.
If you are on benefits, it might be worth citing in the letter that the Social Security Act 1992 prohibits a creditor from placing a charge on a state benefit and as such you are not under any legal obligation to offer anything as such they should seriously consider your short term offer.
This should avoid a) interest being charged, b) charges being added, and c) the account defaulting.
But do it tomorrow as you've reach the point at which most creditors look at defaulting the account, which is the point of no return.
Also, if you bank with Barclays, expect them to help themselves to your bank balance to clear the Barclaycard until you set up an arrangement they agree on.
You'll be fine, don't worry, good luck, and keep us posted!
And remember - the worst course of action to take, is no action at all

Aww shucks, well you can't say you didn't do the right thing in calling them right off the bat at least, so kudos for that

So have they defaulted the account? Did you actually receive a written default notice?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Rung them up and its already with Mercers and debt firm and the accounts are closed etc.
Mercers are part of Barclaycard. They are their inhouse debt collection team.
They have probably already trashed your Credit File, so probably best to negotiate a very small token payment. They have been known to take as little as £1 per month if you can prove that is all that is available.
Beware they will use aggression to try and push you into paying. Ignore this and just continue to offer your token payment. Provided you are seen to be making an effort to reach an agreement, it is highly unlikely to go to court.0
