hello

this is a simple query regarding the primary and secondary rate and hows thgey are charghed

the fisrt approx 780 kwh of elec and gas is always charged at roughky twice the rate of the next xx kwh

consequently if you switch do the new company start you on at the more expensive rate for the qurter or is the primary rate rate applied to the first lot of power you use every day?

just want to know as i may be switching and cant work out if its a drawback or not - particulairy if i switch again in a couple of months ie i may be a serial switcher

i am a fairly low user of elec and gas and hence thought i may alkways fall into the primary rate trap
cheers

steve

The number of kWh charged at the Primary(Tier 1) rate varies from company to company.

For electricity the number is usually 500kWh(125 per quarter) per year or 900kWh per year.(225 per quarter)

For gas it is 2680kWh(670 per quarter) or 4572kWh(1143 per quarter)

I believe every company(except Npower for gas) charges pro rata per day - e.g if 4,572kWh per year it is 12.5 per day.

NPower have seasonal weighting(sculpting) so you pay more per day in the winter months.
