My annual car insurance is up on the 1st of December. I am leaving the country on the 21st of Jan. I am in the process of arranging a lease car from work and plan to sell my car before the 1st of december so I won't have to renew car insurance.
I am also moving house the weekend before this and need my car so have a small window in which I can sell it. (i am going to try and move during the week before but may need my car the weekend 28/29th nov)
In the event that I cannot sell it what options do I have in terms of insurance. I still need some form of insurance for people to test drive etc, but don't want to get myself tied into a policy as it may be only for a couple of days.
Any help gratefully received.

Look for a policy with no cancellation penalties, this will take a lot of work to find, I'm not sure if they even exist anymore, I think the industry standard now is 1 months premium.
Another way round it, would be to insure, for 13 days and then cancel, you are entitled to a full refund within 14days, no quibble, no argument, it's the law. But even then read the policy, I think Swinton has a penalty even in the first 14days - which could be unlawful, but you don't want that hassle.0 -
Norwich Union used to do short term policies - up to max of 30 days. I used it a couple of times when buying a new car etc - not sure if they still do this as it was a couple of years back0

I recently got a days cover through tempcover to tax my new car as despite having it insured already, the archaic system wouldn't allow me to tax it for 7-10 days as my insurer wouldn't email the cert and the DVLA say you need the actual cert to tax it - I was going mad until I decided on the day cover.
And if you do it quidco pay £8 per policy - so my day cost £16-£8 Quidco (tracked straight away). Not sure how much a week or two would cost but I think each day might be cheaper after the first 2. S0 -

And presumably you could do the 14 days again with a different company (and again)0
