Hi, Just wondered if someone could offer me any help.
I have prepayment meters. The last 2 times I have put my card in the gas meter to top it up it has said "taking x.xx for debt". Now I am not aware of ANY debt being owed? Im not sure what is going on, doesnt make sense to me. The last bill they sent showed they owed US money, so how is there debt?

  • Are you sure its not just emergency credit that you've used and are paying back?

If you put your card in and keep pressing the button the screen will change. Keep pressing until you get to screen 27 - this shows how much debt the meter is programmed to recover.

The debt is added to the meter via your card at the shop. Sometimes the wrong message gets added to the wrong account.

Best to phone them up and check.

I just checked and it says £0.00 owed.
I also pressed the blue button and it kept coming up "budget" and whatever that is it was set at £4 and i accidentally put it to £16 and now its stuck on that? Not sure what I just did! :S

Prepayment rates are a little higher than those on normal meters, i dont know why providers set this.

But if you have paid over the odds, then you shall get a refund. Though very doubtful in this age.

We had to stump up £260 as a deposit to move from pre-payment meters to direct-debit.

Daily trips to top up the cards were a nightmare..

Hi Honey D - You don't say who your supplier is, if perchance it's Scottish Power, read the post "Problem with Electric meter" posted by lyndac40

  • Hello

On my meter, if you use the emergency credit it does not take the daily charge so whem you top up into credit it takes the daily charge owed from when you were using the emergency!!

this is what we were told anyway hope that helps
