MP3 file from video?

I was wondering if anybody knows if its possible, and if so how, to somehow 'record' the audio of a video file (say mpeg or avi) to create a new MP3 file, so for instance if for example i had a comedian on my computer i could 'record' the audio and burn it onto CD to play in my car.

There are plenty of tools out there to do this and the best site I've found to help with this sort of question is videohelp.

    Essentialy you're going to:

    1. Rip the source video and demux (separate) it into video and audio streams.

    2. Throw away the video.

    3. Encode the audio stream to mp3.

This is all analogous to ripping CDs.

[Edited to add comment on CD format]

Make sure your car CD player can play mp3 cds else you'll just need to burn a normal audio cd.

  • A slightly easier way to do it is to use a program called Riverpast Audio Converter which does the whole conversion process for you with no loss in quality.

It converts practically any video file to mp3, wma, wav, etc.

I use it myself all the time and thorougly recommend it.
