    Hi Gary

I like 'Little Britain'. I like 'Blackadder' and 'Mr Bean'.

I don't like much else in so-called 'comedy'. I still fall about laughing at (some of) the old Peter Sellers 'Pink Panther' films (but not all of them). I still laugh uproariously at 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em'.

DH recently brought home the DVD of 'The Full Monty'. It's supposed to be funny. But I found it desperately sad, the underlying disappearance of industry which caused those guys to take those extreme measures.

Apart from that I don't watch a lot of TV. We listen to Radio 4 and we like 'The Now Show', 'The News Quiz' and 'I'm Sorry I haven't a clue'. They're so, so funny.

Yes I forgot Peter Sellers I like everything he did from Pink Panther to the goons, I used to like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis but looking back they were a bit childish (so my taste has changed)
Back to the hate bit remember Rowan and Martins Laugh in, ugh.

Bob Hope used to make me laugh so did some of the silent guys Buster Keaton etc. Not to be sexist so here come the ladies Phylis Diller, Dawn French and Saunders, Bette Midler.

Terry Wogan is another favourite his Euro Song ad libbing keeps me watching the programme, but I am a tog.

One of the funniest women in comedy died not so long ago although quite young. Linda Smith. She was really, really funny.

You are right Margaretclare, Linda Smith was a huge and tragic loss to the world of comedy. She was a one-off.

I quite like Jo Brand (sp?), and Carol Thatcher has surprising possibilities in the field of quick-thinking yet self-effacing wit.

Some of the Fawlty Towers skits still make me laugh out loud even after dozens of repeat viewings, but truly hilarious shows are few and far between over the last decade or two. I think they just tried to get too clever and ended up either appealing to the elite, in a "cult" sort of way, or being incomprehensible to those of us of more mature years.

Even Last of the Summer Wine has gone off a bit, with too many new characters and weak "plots".
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Does anyone remember Amos and Andy, strange thing but my father (died in 1985 age 83) was a bit of a racialist but loved the show for those that have not seen it, its a black (not in the modern sense of the word) comedy show must have the first, early fifties.

PS the 4 chefs are still there worse than ever 4 blokes and not one of them can sing.

I must admit I prefer a lot of the comedy on the radio.
Pam Ayres does a show on radio four which is a hoot.
I am not keen on the so-called comedy on t.v. i.e.
Little Britain .excrutiatingly bad and not in the least bit funny
Men behaving badly. rather silly and unamusing.
Last of the Summer wine . Should have been stopped after a year.
The Smoking Room. just not funny at all.
    Anything with Eddy Izzard,

But on the other hand ,
Have I got news for you ;not meant to be,but very witty and funny
Victoria Wood : classic comedy that will run and run
    Dad's Army ; " " " " "
    Porridge " " " " "
    Fawlty towers " " " " "

    The News quiz
    I'm sorry I haven't a clue
    The now show
Dead Ringers when on Radio four
    Hancock
    Round the Horne
    Blackadder
    One foot in the grave
    Sykes
    Kepping up Appearances
But I think that humour is relative to each person and what one finds funny leaves someone else cold .I am not keen on smutty humour I grew out of that when I was young .Now clever and witty people amuse me more Gimme,Gimme Gimme is a prime example of lazy writing .It seems that to write slightly off colour lines amounts to humour and the more swear words crammed in the better. I am not an old fuddy duddy but some one effing and blinding to me doesn't amount to much more than lazy writing.
The late Dave Allen was very witty yet didn't use bad language to get his humour across.
Victoria Wood is one of probably Britains greatest comedic writers as she is so obsevational in her writing .Some of the Dinnersladies writing almost brings tear to your eyes as it is tragi-comedy at it's best.
Hancock didn't use obscene language nor did Ronnie Barker another great loss to comedy. We are lucky in Great Britain to have such a fund of comedy writers when you see what sort of drivel the Americans find funny.I must be the only person in this country that doesn't find the Simpsons funny ,nor Friends.I don't think you can beat the British homour ,as we can laugh at ourselves quite beautifully:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
