VAT Exemption Certificate

Hello All,
Looking for some advice I have been trawling the internet for hours going round in circles.
I have a disabled son we were thinking of converting our garage into a flat mainly for my son when he reaches adulthood although we have a few years left yet but wanted to start the ball rolling, but I would initially use the conversation for a carer to stay and look after my son as I have bipolar and struggle to look after him when I am bad so I have family who would step in. Anyway I am waffling now, could we claim for the vat exemption for the materials and if so how do we do this?
Thanks for your time.

Hi
You need to ask your local social services/occupational therapy department to make an assessment of your son's needs as the Local Authority has a duty to assess and potentially dependent on your financial circumstances, provide a Grant (known as a 'DFG') to assist with adaptations and also advise/provide some equipment.
If you purchase disability equipment then it is usually VAT exempt and you can download a VAT exemption form from different websites - just google 'VAT exemption form'
Good luck!0
