Gas meter safety inspection question
Hi
I'm currently in the process of switching energy suppliers from Scottish Power to EDF for both gas and electricity. I've had two letters this week from Scottish Power stating that they need perform a 'Visual Safety Inspection' and obtain an actual meter reading. Is this normal? I can understand the meter reading, but why just for gas then? Or will they do both? What is a 'Visual Safety Inspection'? Thought it sounded a bit odd that's all.
Thanks
Gwen

I have had the same with a couple of companies even when on p.a.y.g.
I think they either have an obligation to do it or think I might be on the fiddle as I use so little!! (about £1 - £2 week unless v.cold)
They never used an old fashioned blood pressure type machine either, that a maintenance guy would use!0 -
Part of their supply licence means they have to visually inspect a gas meter every 2 years. A similar condition applies to electric meters, but they only have to make 'reasonable endeavours' with electric and the clock can start again if you change electricity supplier. The clock keeps running even if you change gas supplier.
What is it? Just the same as a normal meter reading by the official meter reader."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
