I would of thought vasaline was a better barrier, i used it and ryry has never had nappy rash.

All depends, all babies are different IMO. I get a very bad rash if I use creams or toiletries with petrochemicals in so I would be very wary to put it on DD's bum, whereas most people wouldn't have a problem. My DD suffers with nappy rash when she is teething poor little chick, and thats even when I stay at home and she has her nappy off for up to 7 hours a day. I think it depends on the baby tbh, some are more prone than others IMO. My mum said I suffered with it at the drop of a hat, but my brothers never had it, we have very different skin types, as they have more olivey skin, whereas I am very fair.

Like everything, whatever works to keep littlies bums happy! :D

right - disposable nappies are great - but sometimes baby gets nappy rash - sudocreme is great or vaseline also. if you are using the washable nappies - then the old fashioned remedies may help - talc ladies - in the olden days (i used terry nappies for my first then disposables came in) every nappy change. if baby had nappy rash - then it was zinc and castor oil creme ( still available) from the chemist.
  • I never used barrier cream on my kids, I used Olive Oil! Cleaned them with it too if they were dirty., and not just wet.

    They never got mappy rash.

    Cheers, HG

my DD is 8 weeks old, we bed share some night other night she sleeps in her basket.

A few weeks ago she wouldnt settle so my mum (who is very old skool and dead set a against any of this modern day hogwash) put her to sleep on her belly - it worked a treat.

I was concerned so i spoke to my HV who is fab and she said that it was fine, she said that if thats her natural sleeping position then she will find it anyway as soon as she can roll over so not to worry about it. And if she does decide to sleep on her belly to leave her where she is as going in to put her on her back will only unsettle her more.
:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

I'm sure all mums know the SIDS advice about laying them on their backs, but sometimes it's just not practical when babies can roll themselves. What should we do...pin them down?

Funny you should mention that. On a baby forum I used to use when my DD was small there was a very over protective mother who used to do just that! She used to peg the baby's babygro to the mattress so the poor little mite couldn't roll over

My 3rd daughter wouldn`t entertain the idea of sleeping on her back, neither would she sleep in her own bed. She was finally turfed out when we had a new bed and she was being potty trained at 2.5!

I still can't sleep on my back and I'm a mum of two teenagers. :)

Unless I've had a drink too many. :o
