Humax programme guide -why so slow?

Has anyone else had the same problem we are having with our Humax PVR9150T 160GB Twin Tuner PVR?
It takes so long for the program listings to come up on the guide that it would probably be quicker to go to a shop and buy a TV mag. Someone else we know with the same machine also has this problem so I don't think ours is faulty.
I wondered if maybe there is some way to improve the speed, a download or a code (like multi-regioning a dvd) ot something.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
JJ

I find leaving pvr on bbc1 seems to populate the EPG quicker although it still takes a few minutes
They do tend to be slower to populate some pvrs store epg on hard disk unfortunately Humax dont0 -

Edit - I take it that there is no cure? (other than the BBC1 trick which I will try).Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

Mine does the same, (9150T), sometimes it loads pretty quickly, other times it can take ages, doesn't seem to matter which station I have it on inc BBC1.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Oh well, we'll just have to put up with it then.
On the bright side at least I know we are not missing a trick to improve it!
Thanks everyone.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

It may be connected to the recent digital switchover. When you rescanned recently have you got duplicate channels in the 800s? If you have then you need to delete all channels and reset to default, then rescan. This happens because it is picking up channels from more than one transmitter and the box is getting confused. If the 800s are still there then you need to do a manual scan for each MUX, there are six and you need to manually scan each one. It's quite straightforward, let me know if you need help to do this.0 -
When Humax rescans it adds channels but doesn't delete any.
If you chose "default setting" from the menu it will do a hard reset, wipe all channels and rescan. You should not loose any recordings but the file names may become corrupted. If possible reformat the hard drive.
The switchover in Granada region is driving our Humax boxes mental right now - they have both been fully reset & re-tuned but often seem to be on a general go slow mode! I hope the December retune will see a return to normal service!
One more thing. Humax boxes can get stuck in a loop while starting up. This is a known issue that can be fixed by pulling out the aerial lead and allowing the machine to boot up. Once running put the aerial cable back in and do a retune.
AFAIK none of this is mentioned on the Humax website - it's very naughty of them and a quite surprising given their position in the market.0 -
There's a (self-help) website for Humax users
(Humax make great products but not that good with customer support side... sadly!)
https://www.hummy.org.uk
you'll find loads of help there from other humax users.Laters

Occasionally have this problem with my PVR8000. I find the way to fix it is to power it off at the mains to force a system reboot, always works. As mentioned by others, I also find the EPG fills up fastest when tuned to BBC.0

I have a couple of humax freeview boxes and a freesat box, only the 9200 seems to be slow and populating the epg, even our two freeview lcd tvs are quicker0

Thanks everyone for the advice.
In true middle aged mum style I have handed it all over to my techoholic son while he is home from uni for a week and he is busy sorting it all out. Hopefully by the time he goes back we will have a fully functional system,.then we just have to hope it stays ok until he comes home for Christmas.
He does have his uses, thank goodness!Oh dear, here we go again.0
