I'm a DFW but need some job advice

piglet6...I also left a job I was very unhappy in a few years ago, to go temping. I took a massive pay drop but I felt like I was "on holiday" all the time I was temping. My stomach wasn't it knots anymore (although my bank account soon was!
), Sunday evenings were a breeze, I felt like a different person.
I wish I had found this site (did it exist back then though?) when I made that leap though because it could have helped me adding to my already sizeable debt at that time.
Oh well....lesson learned! Still glad I jumped ship though!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

I couldn't agree more - I felt sick leaving a job to go to no security:eek: , but elated at not having to face my bully anymore:j . I also went from having less than zero confidence to feeling that nothing could hurt me as much as the situation I'd left:p , which helped enormously when I got a temp job - I felt they had no control over my happiness, which gave me confidence (i.e. if they don't like me, I'll just go somewhere else next week
!). In fact, I was very lucky - I took one week off before getting a temp job, which they offered me as a permanent placement at the end of the first week, and I stayed there for 3½yrs.
Even though I realise that I was very lucky with my situation, I am totally with you - I'm glad I jumped ship, too!!;)

I'd agree with those who've said if you can afford to leave, then leave. Life is to short to put yourself under the pressure of a bully if you don't need to. Bully's are inadequate, insecure, dysfunctional people and they are the ones with the problem though that doesn't help when you're in the company of one. Imagine him naked with a pink boa around his neck when he starts to upset you, you'll never see him in the same light again. Big hugs and good luck xxJanuary budget

Hope everything works out OK for you, whatever you decide to do.....Have to agree with everyone though, that the stress and impact on self esteem etc from a bully at work (esp when its your boss) is not worth the effect on your health.
I personally know how crappy it is to be in this situation, and my advice would be to get out quickly and try and get something lined up before you leave. Good Luck!0 -
Quick thoughts
- easier to get a job if you have a job
- difficult to explain reason for leaving to prospective new boss without creating doubt in their mind
-so if you CAN stick it out until you get another offer I would
- but if no f/t available, go p/t or even p/tx2

for all your thoughts and kind words of advice.
Unfortuantely I do need to work....hubby works for himself and hence a salary each month isn't guaranteed, so we need my salary (however small) each month.
You are all right though.....nothing is worth the unhappiness I'm experiencing at the mo and even if I do have to take a drop in salary I think it would be worth it....and as they say you can't take it with you when you're dead anyway!
I was speaking to colleagues today (some of whom are aware of the situation) and everyone has said how appauled they are at the way I am spoken to and agree with the comments here that it is nothing more than bullying.
Unfortuantely we don't have a HR department as such so I doubt very much I would be given an exit interview - the best I could do is to put my reasons for leaving (if i got that opportunity!) in writing although I have a feeling the letter would just get buried....if you know what I mean
Last night (fortuantely job night in the local paper) there was a number of suitable jobs - and irony of all ironies there was an ad for debt workers...and I'm thinking of applying - any thoughts?????2014 Target;

Id take the other job (regardless of what it does) if it means you will not dread going into work everyday.
Its a tough one, but work does pretty much set how your life will be because you spend most of your life there.
If you have got a manager who is picking on you, stand up to them, be calm and collected and ask them what you are specifically doing wrong, and if there are ways you can both look at remedying this.
Remind the manager that it is his role is to make sure his section of the business is working correctly, and if any of the employees fail to meet expectations then, that is his responsibility.
He clearly is not a manager of any calibre because he is not doing any of these things, he is not doing anything to improve the situation.
An unhappy employee isnt going to produce the goods and he is the reason you are unhappy.
(Un)fortunately, depending on your view point you will have to be firm when saying this, but try to leave emotions out of this, try to be business like.
If this fails id raise your concerns in a formal way, stating the above reasons for your disastisfaction
If nothing is done about this, then this company is not good enough for you to work for.0 -

I think if you worked in debt collection, it might not be a bad thing, better to be making things better from the inside out as they say
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
