Help with meat in freezer

Help please. I've been reading these boards for a while now and have started to realise the benefits of meal plans and making a list of things in the freezer and store cupboard. I made a list of everything in my freezer yesterday and found some vac-packed venison (yum yum) which I thought had maybe been there for a year. When I looked at the date on it I discovered that it had actually been there for 2 years:eek: so my question is: given that it's a fridge freezer and not a chest freezer and the meat is vac-packed and shows no visible sign of deterioration, is it safe to eat:confused: Thanks

I can't see why not - stuff lasts pretty much forever in the freezer, as far as I can tell. The quality might not be as good as it was first bought, but it should be perfectly safe.

    HTH.

It doesn't matter whether the freezer has a fridge attached or not ;). If it's been kept at -18C or thereabouts it should be fine to eat, especially if, as you say there's no visible deterioration.

    It's only a game

It is absolutely safe to eat. Food cannot go bad whilst frozen.

Useful thread on freezing and food safety.
  • Thanks, I can see venison on a meal plan in the near future.

Thanks for that. I've had a quick look at the first post and my answer would be, it's from the guidelines that I got with the freezer. but it makes perfect sense that if it's kept at a stable temp then it'll be okay. I had my Edwina Curry head on and thought I should stick to the guidelines ;)
