Feeding the Cats

  • Orijen is a good dry food; very high meat content compared to a lot of the other brands (that includes supermarket brands and the 'better' ones such as Hill's etc). Good news when you consider that cats are obligate carnivores, designed to eat meat.

It is recommended that cats are fed at least some wet food in their diet, unless their water intake is high enough to ensure adequate moisture. Overweight, indoor neutered cats in particular seem to be at more risk of developing bladder problems and wet food is recommended for these guys.

Raw meat is a good way of increasing the protein content of your cat's diet, if you give it in conjunction with a dry food. Remember to make diet changes as gradual as possible to avoid tummy upsets.

Burns is the cheapest quality dried food on the market - buy in bulk. Sheba is rubbish & so overpriced btw. Raw & other stuff is better.

I gave my Cat a Raw Chicken Piece after a recommendation from Purrsinourhearts. I have to admit I was a bit aprehensive at first. However, once I gave it to him he dragged it all through my house as if he had caught it lol. Blood everywhere  It kept him entertained for hours whereas he would usually just sleep. We couldn't find anything left of it but I am scared of finding bones ewwwww

Best thing though he loved it x

:j A chicken wing is what made me seriously consider feeding raw on a regular basis as I was just blown away by how much Noah enjoyed it! :D Still going to feed some complete alongside for convenience tho.

  • Mine have Burns, and they can help themselves throughout the day. They get a trashy Whiskas pouch in the evening... they go mad for it and they're pleased to see us after work! We buy huge sacks of Burns - as a rough calculation, 9.5kg (about £65) lasted my two cats 4 months. When we fed them mainly wet food we were spending a fortune in comparison.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I've been curious about raw food for a few weeks now. Is it safe to just give my cat a bit of raw chicken? I've only just got them to actually eat wet food (applaws), they seem to be extremely fussy with what wet food they'll eat. And I have no idea if it'd be okay to just give them a bit of raw food.

My only worry is my cat has a habit of leaving me his toys in my bed, and being veggie I'd not be impressed with finding a bit of raw chicken in my bed lol.

apparently taurine is in offal so you can buy things like sheeps or pigs or whatever hearts, kidneys, tongue & cut that up & give it to them - less chance of it being dragged around the house if it's in bitesized pieces. What I normally do is buy a packet & cut them all up & put in freezer bags & take out one bag at time & give it to them. Feline Fayre (4 packets for £1 at Asda) is good cheap wet food (as in good quality).

Yes it is perfectly safe just buy a frozen Chicken Wing let it faw out and then just give it to your Cat, I usually give it to my Cat as a treat twice a week.

Yeah I understand your concerns about finding the Chicken parts afterwards but they can eat the majority of it. I Still haven't found the Chicken Wing I gave him last week

rev, we have an area of the garden where only our cats go (i.e.fenced off from the pushier dogs) and we sometimes feed the chicken wings there, so that they don't bring them in the house. In fact, this year they haven't had them there because I opened that area too our chickens, and for obvious reasons its a bad idea around the chickens, but if you only have cats then feeding outside might be an option?

The other option is to leave then in one room for a while e.g. kitchen. Its fair to point out you will want to give floors and surfaces a thourough clean: raw chicken is great for cats, less so for us.
