Hi everyone, need some advice.
I am a single mum who works full time in a school as a teaching assistant.
We have recently been told that there are going to be some redundancies and are entering the 30 day consultation period next week.
What happens when the 30 days are up?????
We have not been told what the selection criteria is or alot else apart from how many jobs are going.
I just completed my NVQ3 last year as well as various other courses, but am one of the TA's who was last in ( been there 19 months).
Im just so confused and upset right now, I love my job, although it is mentally and physically exhausting and am going to struggle through the next 30 days.
I used ti suffer from anxierty and am scared this is going to

Also, I dont think I would be entitled to any redundancy pay as I have only been there since April 2008, so less than 2 years.
would it be the school who pays redundancy and are they more likely to get rid of me because they wont have to pay me redundancy?[STRIKE]September 2009 - £11000 owed, its gonna be hard going[/STRIKE]!:T

If I was the boss you would be the first to go.
I dont mean to sound nasty but it would be cheaper to get rid of you than someone I had to pay ten years worth of redundency to.
Plan for the worst is my advice. Get info regarding benefits you may be entitled to, just in case. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
Our school announced the same thing on Friday.
We were told that, once HR and Unison have been in next Friday, if an agreement can't be made (I'm guessing voluntary redundancy and/or early retirement) then we must all reinterview for the posts that they decide are available.0 -
yes thats why I wondered who it is who would pay any redundancy money. Does it come from the school or the authority or government???[STRIKE]September 2009 - £11000 owed, its gonna be hard going[/STRIKE]!:T

It would come from whoever pays your wages - so it would be from your school budget but (usually) from the LEA's payroll dept.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Pinky, I just want to say good luck and try not to get too anxious, be confident in your qualifications and abilities, I hope you all the best xx0

thanks miniemma, its sooo hard not knowing what is going on.
I have been in debt for years now and became single mum back in may. It has been a HUGE struggle to try and keep my head above water, but I am managing each month and still paying into my DMP.
I just dont know how I will cope financially if I lost my job, as well as all the intrest charges starting to be added on again and with Christmas and all.....
Keeps creeping into my brain all the time just such a worry.[STRIKE]September 2009 - £11000 owed, its gonna be hard going[/STRIKE]!:T

Or you could keep the lower paid, and pension off the longest serving employees, or pay the redundancy which will be less than 1 years salary normally, and is in the budget for this years pay anyway.
To the op, there is no way of knowing, but I've been there several times myself, so I'm afraid you'll just have to hang on, and all the best.0 -
well found out today from the union that the school have made huge mistakes with the whole proccess.
basically they sent a list of names to the union and we dont even start the 30 days consultation period until next week.
the criteria is qualifications, but no one has been asked to suplly a list so they have pre selcted people on not up to date records![STRIKE]September 2009 - £11000 owed, its gonna be hard going[/STRIKE]!:T
