I haven't bid, but just been looking at items within a certain mile distance from me and came across a car listing that states £50 is to paid via paypal at the end of auction as a deposit and is non refundable.
Is this allowed?
Never bought a car off ebay but may in the future as OH would like an older car to work on and fix up as he is a qualified mechanic, though doesn't work as one as its more of a hobby for him.

Nothing wrong with it. You win, pay £50 by Paypal, then go and collect the car and pay the outstanding amount. The non-refundable bit just means if you don't turn up, you can swivel for your £50 (dispute notwithstanding).Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Funniest one of these I ever saw was local to me, so I phoned the seller and offered to bid and pick it up that night for cash. He was fairly obnoxious, and insisted on payment first, so I wished him luck and didn't bid.
It must have sold 5 times as I watched it over the weeks. Always non-paying bidders, but each listings had more faults, that weren't there previously. I doubt anyone pays the deposit, they can't force you to, and each buyer must have seen what a heap it really was.0
