512mb ddr2 or 1gb of ddr

I need a new motherboard to match my new 2.8ghz skt 775 processor.

I currently have 1gb of ddr in my current system that is only a couple of months old and 512mb ddr2 that I was given along with the processor.

The question is which road should I choose ?

Any help gratefully received.

Ali.

Well you havent got the fastest processor out there, so I am guessing that ultimate gaming performance isnt your goal.

In which case use the DDR, 1gb of RAM, it will give Windows XP a nice comfortable overhead with which to work.

Whilst the DDR2 is faster by itself (in physical performance tests), the fact you have double the amount of DDR ram makes it a better choice (taking into account what Windows likes to use).

Now if you were to ask about equal amounts of DDR and DDR2, then the answer would (probably) be different!

    Cheers for your help,

Nah gaming isnt really my main concern, just I got an amazing deal on the processor.

I have a foxconn (i think) motherboard, which seems to be impossible to trace the drivers and manuals for. however I am not convinced that it is going to work (2nd user) and it takes ddr memory.

Need to wait for my heatsink and fan to arrive before testing, and then to buy a pci express card.

However if it doesnt work - do i buy a new ddr2 motherboard, or a ddr one, or one with both options and upgrade at a later date.

    Ahhhh, decisions decisons.

Anyway, heres hoping my motherboard works

    Thanks again
