A Question For Used Car Expert?

I have been offered a 54 plate Peugeot 307 Turbo diesel which has previously been used as a taxi. It was one of two that the guy had on the firm, so I know the history of the car as I used to work for him. I do know it has had alot of money spent on it and runs fine.
I have offered him £500 cash as it's taking up room on his drive which he has accepted, subject to me inspecting it.
The car has 200K miles on the clock which is common for these engines but I'm not sure if it's worth the money or not. I may buy it for myself or sell it on.
Should I leave well alone or go for it?

If you can afford to wave goodbye to £500 if it ends up being a lemon, then go for it.
A small sum for a car, and if you get a year out of it then it's fairly cheap motoring.Wha's like us - damn few, an' they're a' deid

If it drives fine, has no problems (oil leaks, slipping clutch, stalling etc etc) then for £500 (which is firmly in the taking-a-gamble-on-an-old-banger territory anyway) I'd snap his hand off. As mentioned, a year's motoring (or even 6 months) and it's paid for itself.0

Well put it this way.....if you don't have it, I will!0

a grand might be pushing it at those miles.
you might find more money in breaking it for spares if your that way inclined....work permit granted!0 -
I'd buy it and keep it.
Not much resale in it due to the mileage but if you can get that car for £500 and it works well for a year or longer great deal for you.
Still relatively young and despite being a peugeot its a nice car.0 -
Make sure the FAP is in good shape.
Make sure the ABS works ok - ABS units are a grabd on them.
I'd personally not bother, or buy it and sell thge parts off it.0 -
Just to update the situation. I contacted my ex-boss yesterday to arrange to go round to see him about the car. He was supposed to call me last night but never did and never replied to my texts today.
Ah well..seems like he's just lost a sale!0 -
