It's good you decided to use a passport instead of a driving licence. When I opened mine, the staff asked what ID I had. I said I got a passport and driving licence, which I handed to her. I thought they want proof of name and address - hence those two documents. In the end, they only wanted one of those documents. She just took the passport instead of the driving licence. Looks like they like passports more than the driving licence.

I have that account, but not bankrupt though.

Tell us how it went when you open your account on Monday. :)

Sorry you are having trouble with the Coop, no excuse for incompetence. When I opened our account over the phone, I gave my details and after about a 45 second wait I was told I had been accepted and was given my new account number there and then. I really wanted online access and this was the main reason I opted for the Coop, I do know that they are "snowed" under at the moment with people wanting to open a Cashminder account. Hope you can sort it on Monday.

Yep, I thought it was odd at the time, especially with having to send verification details for my wife as we have always had a joint account.

  • My daughter had problems with the co op, she decided she liked their ethical policy and as such would open a account. She took in the required ID then heard nothing. She phoned them up to find out the ID had not been submitted by the clerk and the time limit was now up so she would have to go back in and open another account. This she did but then was sent info for two bank accounts! she put in a complaint and got £25 for her trouble..

it's such a shame that companies fail at the first hurdle...gives such a bad first impression..£25 certainly helps though! :D
