hiya
i applied in branch for a coop cash minder last Saturday, she took a copy of my passport and i was told that was all they needed. i am in a bit of a hurry to get it set up as i don't have anywhere to get my wages paid this month.
i was told i would get card/pin/account number/welcome letter etc all through the post. got a letter today saying that i've been approved for an account, but they need to see some ID before they open it! that was the whole point of me taking my passport in last weekend!!! (i had a bit of a strop when the letter arrived lol poor oh)
i'm now in a panic as i have mon/tues this week to arrange an account and get the details to payroll.
if i can't resolve this on monday with the coop, are barclays any quicker? i really need an account number by tuesday...
thanks peeps - not a life or death post i know but wondered what experiences with barclays were like

It's all standard letters it sounds and it's so frustrating that they cannot communicate with each other on each case before the letters are sent out. I would go back in branch with your ID (kick some bot too seeing as you have already done that) and they should process your account there and then, if not they will be able to tell you your account number over the phone the very next day.
So annoyed on your behalf! I shall calm down now0 -
Hi,
With regards to Barclays, I know I've read about people recently going into a branch and leaving with their account number and sort code the same day, so that might be worth a try if you're stuck?

Go for Barclays. As someone said above, you get the account details on the day. Bring one piece of ID, preferable passport or driving licence. You get your card and PIN in the same week of opening. For example, you open the account on Monday, on Tuesday you get your PIN, and Wednesday you get the card. They are very efficient. Online/telephone banking details comes the week after you opened your account.
The account you want to open is the Barclays Cash Card Account. Despite the name, it comes with a debit card.
Barclays offer good customer service too, and has a lot of branches than Co-op.0 -
thanks book12...sounds like a plan...0

I assume you have another bank account before you applied for the Co-op Cashminder.
If so, use those account details. If not, go early in the morning to open the Barclays account.
About the debit card:
Some retailers still recognise the Co-op Cashminder debit card an Electron, when it should be recognised as a VISA debit. The retailers haven't updated their databases yet. The Barclays account comes with a proper VISA debit. It's good that you are planning to go to Barclays instead.0 -
that's great thanks book12
i've got a current account but it is overdrawn and i wanted to move my wages as they're getting a bit funny with me, didn't want them to offset my wages and lose them for the month. monday lunchtime going to be busy running round with my passport then!0
