Comparison websites vent

I went on a couple of comparison websites to get insurance quotes for my home, never again.

I had just downloaded the quotes but not had a chance to study them as I went for a coffee, OK my wife made me one as it was mid-afternoon.

Then the phone started ringing. :mad:Insurance companies wondering if I was going to take their quote.

One bloke was on the phone for 30 minutes and he went through everything I had put in online. He even gave me the hang on I will consult my manager line to see if I can get you a bigger discount. Big deal he did, a whole £10 off managers special.

And he wanted me to take it out then and there. Good job I didn't have my credit card handy:rolleyes:

He was not a happy chappy when I wouldn't sign up there and then

So far I have had 8 calls from companies in 2 days.

So I have eliminated all the companies that called me and will make my selection from the remainder.

What annoys me even more, my present company has more than doubled my premium and their web site gave me a better price than the renewal but it was only £5 cheaper.

If I had wanted to use the phone to get quotes I would have.

Patrick

p.s. I know people will say why did you not hang up on him but I am trying to get insurance and I had nothing better to do.

Did you not expect the calls to start soon after, can you ot get away with putting in a fake number or puting in a mobile number but turn the phone off

Just do what I do. If the telephone number box is a mandatory one on their online form, then just put a made up number in it. Similarly for emails, I have a disposable hotmail account which I use for these type of things to avoid getting loads of spam in my 'real' email inbox. Has worked for me!

I know now, I thought I would get one or two calls but not 5 mins after I had filled out my details.

I have an Asda sim with no money on it, I got it free from someone in Asda, they were giving them away, I could give out that number I suppose.

In fact that is what I will do, should I even bother putting it in my phone?

    It is an Asda phone.

I normally put in the following phone number for things:

0131 which is my area code followed by 000 0000 which follows the number format for Edinburgh. Sites always accept the zeros.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

Yes,i only tried it the once, using a comparison site for quotes and got pestered to death. They even seem to remember a year down the line too so watch out in 12 months time!!

I now ring up two or three that i have used in the past and know to be good, just to compare with what i have been offered.
