I went into Lloyds the other day to open one of those 8% savings accounts. It didnt take long, but after the usual marketing crap and the million of questions about my life... the woman said they were now going to have to conduct a credit check!

I said thats fine, but rather unusual to open a savings account. She tried to convince me that it was actually for money laundering, which i know to a degree it is... but then why *call* it a CREDIT CHECK?!

Either way, i think you'll agree its a rather sad state of affairs when you have to pass a "credit check" to open a bloody SAVINGS ACCOUNT!

Earning £50K+ a year, owning my own house, having a vodafone contract or 4 years +, having credit cards, never missing a payment in my life... It all doesn't count when applying for a bloody O2 phone! I just got declined when applying for a phone online! How stupid is the credit checking facilities in this country????

I even applied for an equifax credit report and its all GREEN! No CCJ's, bad history, etc. I've been declined for credit cards (amex) before. I just DON'T KNOW the reasons!!!!!! It would make more sense if there is a VALID reason. How bloody likely is it that i miss a payment of £19 a month??????

I think we should all have identity cards and that should make life simpler. Stupid credit checks!

Perhaps the other major credit agency holds incorrect info on you. When obtaining credit reports, I'd recommend requesting both the Equifax and Experian reports. The latter might hold different/incorrect information on you and may have been the report that was used for the search by O2.

I would also rec getting a couple of reports sent to you. l had the same problem a couple of years ago, could get credit fine with some but not with others. Couldnt work out why so contacted Experian and Equifax and one of them was showing a 1 on my report instead of all 0's for a catalogue payment that l supposedly missed. l got straight on the company and they amended it and l have had no problems since.

Its good see whats what every now and then aswell.

Sorted it out with equifax... i think. They put me down as being at my currrent property for only 2 months despite me being there for 18 months. They rectified it and gave me a new credit report online. It all seems ok now. Its funny how only certain companies appear on the report. No bank accounts or mortgage payments are shown. Only some credit cards and vodafone.

Anyway, got a phone through t-mobile. At least they had a human at the end of the credit check. i explained the situation and they approved the contract immediately. The automated system O2 uses sucks bigtime! They should improve it for their own good. Imagine the business they are loosing because of a small error like this!

I recently applied for an O2 phone online, and was declined.I assumed that this was because of my credit file being a bit rubbish from years ago (but not 6 years yet, when hopefully it will disappear off my file!!)So I phoned to speak to someone in their sales department to see if I could send them anything to show that I'm able to pay the bills etc etc, and the guy said he would try to put the order through, and it went through fine with him. He said that there might have been a problem with the system where I had accidentally put some info in wrong or something.Bit gutted as I missed out on cashback through Quidco as I ordered over the phone!Try giving them a ring and explain your situation, I'm sure they will sort something out.
