Hair has been destroyed

Help! I had a perm put on my hair yesterday at a hairdressers i've used before but mainly for cuts etc.

A trainee did the majority of it ie put on the solutions etc and when it was drying it was almost straight on the one side. The hairdresser explained this was probably because of the way it was being dried and would be better once i've washed it myself and could tip my head upside and dry it with a diffuser.

By the time i got home and the hair had dried completely, it was as if my hair had been back combed and was very frizzy and almost straight on top.

I am heartbroken, i had grown my hair especially and saved up to have a perm as a bit of a treat for myself but its all gone horribly wrong. The only thing i can do with it is pin it up, i've done that this morning and my friend has pointed out that the hair has gone a dirty brown colour and my blonde colour on top (coloured it a month ago) has gone a deep almost ginger colour.

The hair is brittle and feels really dry. Ive rang the hairdresser who has suggested it may need layers putting in (i hadn't noticed the colour change at this point so it wasn't mentioned)

I know i should give her the chance to put it right but the thought of her cutting my hair terrifies me and to be honest i don't want them to touch my hair again.

Can anyone tell me what my rights are here?

Sorry for the long post :o

Take photos and put your complaint into writing. If you need layers to make a perm suitable for your length of hair this should have been explained to you before. You might give them the chance to do a free wash, deep condition and blow dry so that you know how they suggest you care for the perm?

  • Hi, thank you for that. I will take photos of it definitely, i had a lot of perms done when i was younger so i know how to care for them already, i'm annoyed that it was done by a trainee too and that i paid full price as if done by a fully trained hairdresser.

Apart from conditioning though i can't see what they can offer to do, my colour has been destroyed and the condition of my hair is terrible. I suppose i should have asked them to do strand tests first. My hair was just passed my shoulders and i had asked for lots of little curls that were quite tight (as i know perms tend to drop)
  • Definitely take photographs and then go back to the shop and ask them what they are going to do to make it right or at least better. Any good hairdresser would be falling over themselves to put it right. Make sure you stand your ground for any further treatments you may need and don't pay for anything more. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted soon.
