free perscription because you can't get out by yourself?

Options
Hello, I've heard before that your entitled to free perscriptions if you can't get out without help (which i can't). Last year i just paid the £100 for a pre perscription payment card but this year when it needed renewing i rang them to ask about it, they said yes your entitlee to free ones because of this reason and to talk to my GP. I was seeing my GP anyway so asked her, she hadnt heard of it before so said to ask my pharmasist who said i should ask social services??????????
Can anyone shed some light please?

I can't say I've ever heard of that.

There are specific medical conditions that entitle you to it, and if you're on a very low income, but I didn't think it was anything so general as that.

    thsi is what it says

People who have certain medical conditions

Although there are many conditions requiring regular medication, only the following qualify for an exemption certificate:
    • Treatment for cancer.
    • A permanent fistula requiring dressing.
    • Forms of hypoadrenalism such as Addison's disease.
    • Diabetes insipidus and other forms of hypopituitarism.
    • Diabetes mellitus except where treatment is by diet alone.
    • Hypoparathyroidism.
    • Myxoedema (underactive thyroid) or other conditions where thyroid hormone replacement is necessary.
    • Myasthenia gravis.
    • Epilepsy requiring continuous anti-convulsive medication.
    • A continuing physical disability which means you cannot go out without help from another person.
If you have one of the specified conditions ask for an application form (FP92A England, HC11B Northern Ireland and EC92A Scotland - clearly marked 1 January 2009) from your doctor's surgery. You need to fill it in and your doctor (or an authorised member of the practice staff) will sign to confirm the information you've given is correct. You will then be sent a Medical Exemption Certificate.

So if the bit in red applies to you you need to get application for filled in by doctor for exemption.
