  • Next are awful, they charge you every month for a catalogue even if you dont want it. I had an account with them and about 3 months ago my statement came and they said i had a limit left of 44p. When i called they said that every month they do a credit score so they decided that I was not worthy of more. (I've always paid more than the required amount on time and had a credit limit of £8K) so it was probably them that pushed my limit down. that was back in October have since been charged for another catalogue. Thing is the clothes are crap and over priced atm and dont even get me started on the furniture. Steer clear of Next Directory. BTW I only owe them £350 and that was including 4 catalogues that i didnt order.
  • I know this will seem like a very stupid question but if you order the items by phone are you still liable!?.... you clearly can't read their small print unless they sit and read it out loud to you...and when you have young children running about WHO?! can hear anything on the phone.....my point is this..I tried to order online but couldn't (Debit card payment on a gent's suit) we really wanted it quickly for an interview for OH (guess what, it didn't arrive on time!!) so we ordered it by phone....am I then presumed to have entered into the same credit agreement?!! Again, items were paid off fully by debit card.
June 2012 Clydesdale Loan=[STRIKE]£12620[/STRIKE]£1246.47- (only 5 payments left but just received £3955 back from it for PPI!!!)

  • I ordered over the phone so unfortunately never got the change to read any small print. They did a credit search and opened an account - this was never mentioned in anyway during the phone call. I was furious when I found out.

I'm pretty sure that you can cancel the catalogue mailings without cancelling your account with them by giving them a call and telling them you no longer wish to receive catalogues in the post. I've done it before and since then, I have never been charged for their catalogues once or received any in the post (except for the small promo ones which they include with monthly statements)!

Only thing is I can't remember if they asked over the phone why I'd wanted that done.
If they did, I probably told them its because I live in a flat and their dispatch guy always leaves it at the main door and then it gets stolen somehow. Which really did happen in the past. The same goes for La Redoute catalogues. Always get stolen after the dispatch leaves them at the main door. So I did the same for La Redoute and cancelled all mailing of catalogues to my door. They don't charge for catalogues though.

The T&C from next are clear except for this bit:

A Next Directory Flexible Account ("Next Account") may be opened for you and you will be charged £3.75 for your first and each subsequent Next Directory.

I've put the weasel words in bold. To me, 'may' means an account might be opened or it might not - when do you know if they have or haven't? Seems clear that if they do open an account then you will be charged for the catalogues..........

may be opened as until they have done a credit check they cannot say will be opened
