I am trying to connect a 2nd pc to my netgear DG834G with a wired connection.
PC 1 is a xp wired to the router and working ok
PC 2 is a 98 se which i have connected to the router with a RJ45 straight but not working (yet)
I think i will have to enter the IP address of the 98 into the settings page of the router, to allow it to connect to the internet. How do i find the IP address of the 98
I have managed to access the router page but how and were do i put the information, it only says for wireless setting, is this were i put the info for a wired connection?
If i'm doing something wrong will someone please tell me what to do as i haven't got a clue on what am doing
thanks

start, run, winipcfg
then do a release and renew. it should pick up a 192.168.0.x ip address automatically if tcpip is installed.
you shouldn't have to do anything to the router config, unless you have tinkered with it previously.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Go > Start > Run > type cmd > enter > type ipconfig into the cmd box and hit enter
presto!

Zombies instructions wont work on 98, (it's command and winipcfg, rather than cmd and ipconfig)
Is tcpip installed in control panel, networks?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
on the ethernet card that you have in your pc go to the properties and find the internet protocol(TCP) and properties of that and make sure it is set to obtain ip automatically and DNS automatically, do this on both pc's and wait a second and the internet should be working on both of themThings that are free in life are great, well most of the time :beer:0

PS, If you are not using the wireless function on the router, it is safer to turn it off on the router config page
(Wireless settings, remove tick from Enable Wireless Access Point).
If you are using wireless, have you setup WPA encryption?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
is that control panel, network, TCP/IP0
