How to find out who supplies my Electricity. Please help
Hello! Posting for my daughter. She moved into a flat a year ago and asked scottish power to supply her electricity. Bt then found out her flat was being supplied ny npower. There followed countless phone calls eveb a 3 way call between my daughter , npower and scottich power! All to no avail - she could not establish who her supplier was! (Seems daft I know). In dec 08 she paid a bill to SP who returned the monies April 09 with a letter apologising and saying they did not supply the property! My daughter recieved 2 more bills addressed to Mr Occupier. Now the account has been transferred to a debt recall company bt SP. My daughter is 'in bits'. She wants to pay bt is so confused. I rang scottish power twice yesterday giving then the serial number on the meter. i found out this number suggests that the SP supply bt the property was registered with Powergen on 30/10/09. Bt my daughter has not changed anything. SP asked me to ring Powergen bt I can't see how this would help. SP said a mistake has been made some where along the way bt I didn't really feel we had any clear signs of which way to proceed. SP are asking debt collection company to stp their action. Will this affect my daughter's credit record? Who can I go to for help in this confusing matter? Thank you

If you go here and look up who her local electricity distributor is, they should be able to tell her who is actually supplying her electricity

...the property was registered with Powergen on 30/10/09...
Follow the advice above to find out who is actually the supplier....Will this affect my daughter's credit record? ...
No one can pursue a debt addressed simply to "the occupier". Likewise no mark can be put on any credit record.
A debt is not a debt until it has remained unpaid for at least 28 days from the time the amount was formally demanded.
But that doesn't mean that the supplier will not end up billing your daughter for the amount she has consumed once this is sorted out, so hopefully she has put that money aside knowing such a bill will eventually arrive.
Note that the supplier will probably bill the consumption to date based on their most expensive 'standard' tariff.
The sooner you daughter sorts out who the supplier is and contacts them, the sooner she can discuss with them the most beneficial tariff she should be on to save money (or even better, use a comparison site to check out the whole of market to find the best deal)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
oh thank you for your comments. I decided that as this problem seemed outside the bounds of a supplier of energy to put it right another way. i rang consumer direct this morning. They were excellent and the problem is going to b sorted by their 'extra help' team as it is so bizarre. Result shortly i hope0

Now debt collectors are involved you would be better writing to all parties, detailing your efforts to pay to date. Send the letters recorded delivery; phone calls are not formal communication and are clearly getting you nowhere.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
