For marking purposes, (and with consent) agreed practice is 09:00 - 21:00, if it is in relation to debt collecting or any other activity then the legal maximum is 0 if the person in question has formally request no further contact by telephoneCOS wrote:Please can somone post the legal times a company can call a customer.
This weekend Saturday 820 am and Sunday 818am Barclays telephoned me on the landline unexpectedly.
Thanx in advance. It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
Firstly thanks to TheDebtCollector, may I say maybe you should switch sides and look at becoming a debt advisor?? Although your posts from the "inside" are most helpful! If only all debt collector were as sympathetic. Telephone harrassment is a huge issue - thanks for the advice. But what do people do when they ignore requests to only deal in writing? My friend has recently been hospitalised after a suicide attempt due to incessant harrassment on the phone by creditors (he lost his job and couldn't repay his debts). He asked them not to phone him and write to him instead but they took no notice. I suggested he could change his phone number but he lives at home and his mum doesn't want to do that (she seems to think it is his fault). Can he complain? if so where? they don't seem to care when he tells them they are bearking the law.0

sorry - breaking the law I meant to say - although maybe they are "barking" if not bearking0

You Might want to point out them that whilst merely being in breach of contract is not a criminal offence, a Breach of the telephony act most certainly IS.
Don't put up with their lies on the phone, for that's what they are. just tell them that they ARE committing an offence by calling you and that you will quite happily give evidence against them under oath in a court of law for harrasment and intimidation. if you're canny you can get them to breach DPA during the conversation as well, but you have to outsmart them.
