I am going to declare a pretty feeble op of £36.99 for this month. I daren't pay any more as i have made myself fairly skint after filling my DS2's child trust fund for the year. Also next month is going to be hectic.
- family wedding so need to buy outfit for DS1 and possibly shoes for both, also need to send cats to cattery for weekend, present and diesel costs for journey to London.
- DS2's 2nd birthday - presents already bought, but need to buy some food for a party at home.
- BIL and nephew also have birthdays.
- ground rent due
- changed gas and electric suppliers so will have a new DD to pay as well as sorting out the debit on the gas bill.
As long as i keep plodding i'll get there.0 - family wedding so need to buy outfit for DS1 and possibly shoes for both, also need to send cats to cattery for weekend, present and diesel costs for journey to London.

Just paid off a huge chunk of the mortgage, this has taken it from £74,898 down to 38,939. Currently on the base rate and now our monthly payments are down to £80.90 a month. Hello,
I was reading through this thread and I would really like to join. If you add me on I will update my signature with my MFW 2010 number, but until then I will just put my total for the year.
I had never even thought of the concept of overpaying my mortgage before I started to read on this forum. I know that might sound so strange to everyone on here but I just figured that a long-term mortgage was just something that everyone had.
My mortgage is still so big as well that it seemed like a fruitless task. But I've been reading through everyone's comments and it's given me such inspiration that I've decided to start now!! I'm turning 30 this year so it might have inspired me as well.
So I would like to make a total overpayment for the year of £1300. So far for the year me and the OH have made one overpayment of £400! It's not gonna be anywhere as big for the coming months, hopefully around £100, but it's a start...MFW 2012 #145 - Overpayments - £0.00/£20000 -
Welcome aboard FTS! :hello: I'm sure Cake will give you a number and add you to the list when she sees your post.
Like you, I never once thought of paying my mortgage off early until I started reading this forum, but since then it has gradually become an obsession!I started off small too, just paid off whatever I could afford, but you soon see how much of a difference even the small extra payments make to your balance, and you start finding "spare" money from elsewhere to put into the mortgage pot.
Stick around and keep reading, there are loads of great tips on here and on the DFW board. And good luck on your journey to mortgage-free-ness! :beer:MFiT-T5 #52 - aiming to clear mortgage completelyJanuary 2019: £19620 ~ November 2021: £0.00!0 -
Hi violetblue,
Thank you for your words of encouragement  It really helps to hear from other people and how they do it. Hearing people say they have got around £20,000 on their mortgage really inspires me. I currently have £168,000 which seems like such a depressingly large balance but I guess I've got to start somewhere.
My OH thinks I've gone a bit crazy as I have set up a lovely excel spreadsheet totalling the rest of our mortgage payments until the mortgage is paid off........in October 2042!!!!! I'm certainly gonna have my work cut out to bring it down. Of course this doesn't take into account interest rates rises in the future, hence why I'm trying to get the balance rate down now before the fix rate ends.
I will certainly be keeping an eye out for any tips. I tried my luck at the lottery last night. Haven't checked my ticket yet so fingers crossedMFW 2012 #145 - Overpayments - £0.00/£20000 -
