How do I get speed cameras on my road ?

This road is a right rat run, and some opf the speeds drivers go at are patently illegal. Its humped sligtly at one end. I saw a BSM instructor doing about 60 the other day. We have a school at one end, and there are loads of kids on this road, its a death trap.

Any ideas How I get a speed camera put in? If not a deterrent per se, at least people may think twice about breaking them law once theyve got done for a ticket.

No debate about whether this is right or wrong please. I know im in the right for requesting it, people who break the law need to be punished for it. End of :)

My in laws contacted the police about drivers speeding on their road and then police came out a few times to check it, unfortunately they came at times where people decided not to speed so they didnt do anything about it. Prob calling them first would be a good place to start.

You could try this BBc site about people who want to change things in their community, there are bound to be others out there who feel the same way!

  • We had a problem locally with lorries tipping over on the corner of our road because they are speeding. Clearly lorries falling over was a huge concern and we spoke to the Council and Police. I think you will probably be informed that until a high percentage of accidents and/or fatalities are offically recorded no speed calming measures are to be put in place.

You will probably also find that government thinking has altered towards speed cameras and that it will be unlikely that this would be one of the traffic calming measures if any are introduced.

If your council and police force are anything like the ones I have encountered it will take years of protesting, of which I don't have the time to do, so we have had to give up the fight and wait for the next lorry to tip over and hope it isn't over someone walking on the pavement!

Because a school is at the end of your road, you may be lucky and get the 20 mph speed sign painted in red on the tarmac and maybe have some bumps, road islands to make traffic one way for 50 years to make cars give way or get the local road layout altered. Be prepared though, you are probably in for a long fight, so build up your energy levels and get as many others involved as possible. Making this request on your own will be exhausting if it is anything like the negotiations I have been through!
