    Milton Sterilising Fluid works for me when I want to use old mustard jars for jam.

    Well I'm glad to say the dry newspaper worked perfect!!

    Thanks for everyones suggestions, didn't get to try the lemon one as I had no lemons!
    If only closed minds came with closed mouths!

    I do this too... although, I use the shops own brand stuff, cos its cheaper :D

    I use sterilising tablets for dentures to clean out vases etc. Wonder if Milton equivalent would be cheaper...must check next time I'm out.

    I tend to use white vinegar in hot waer. Leave it to stand, then rinse out with cold water.
