Any Ideas... Coffee smell out of coffee jar

Hi

I have got an empty 'dowe egberts' coffee glass jar with glass lid that has a plasticy rubber seal on it. I have had the idea that as it looks like an old sweet jar I was going to fill it with sweets as a small present for my cousin.

Problem is I cannot get the coffee smell out of it and fear it will contaminate the sweets. Any ideas on getting the smell out?

Thanks

Try filling it with water with a couple of teaspoons of bicarb and leaving it for a few hours.

I wanted to get rid of the smell of sandwich spead from jars a few months ago and tried bicarb, but it didn't work. I stuffed some newspaper in instead and it worked wonders!

I have dozens of these as they make great spice and food containers...just a drop of lemon washing up liquid and fill to the top with hot or boiling water ..leave to soak overnight and rinse does it for me.

Once all the cleaning things above have been tried - if there is a trace left, try leaving the jar and lid in the freezer overnight
