Possible to recover txt messages on a mobile?

Hi all, would anyone know whether the usual flash based memory file recovery software will work on recovering txt messages from a mobile phone Sony Eriscsson w800i? I can connect the phone up to the PC and see both the phone and the memory card as readable drives in 'My Computer'.
