The Sky+ box has two tuners in it. You can use just the one feed from the satellite dish if you want, but you won't be able to record one programme and watch another at the same time.

As far as I know, if you don't have a Sky subscription, you'll need to give Sky £10 a month in order to use the Sky+ features.
  • Assuming you have an active subscription, when the box arrives you will have to phone Sky anyway to get the viewing card paired to the new box.

The rest is as Marty says.

You only need to pay Sky £10 a month if you don't already have a Sky subscription.
  • You haven't stated at any point whether you bought the box to replace an normal digibox, whether you have a current subscription, or if you had the cables but no box on the end.

Without that knowledge, we're just trying to cover the basics.

    Hi

I've just upgraded from a standard sky box to sky + and only currently have 1 feed from my dish.

I already had a sky subscription and the good news is if you are already paying money to sky using sky + features doesn't cost a penny more!

You just need to ring sky so that they can pair your card to you new sky + box - you need to have your sky + box connected when you do this.

Finally I only currently have 1 feed from my dish so all I can do is record the channel I'm watching on Sky and this is fine for me - it works excellently. When my area switches to digital (which is soon) I'm going to have the second feed put in by a lical tv ariel installer so I can watch 1 channel and record another.

    I hope this helps!

What does switching to digital have to do with having a second feed installed?

Good point Marty J - because I can still switch to the analogue signal for the 5 free to air channels and still record other channels using the sky+ box. Unfortunately this will no longer be an option when my area switches to digital thats when I intend to have the 2nd feed fitted, a strnage way to try and save money in the interim!
  • hi, sorry i should have given more details, i am a sky subscriber, i bought it as a replacement because i thought it would just work lol, there was only one cable from the dish to the original didgibox and this is the cable i connected.
Am i right in thinking that if there is only one connection you can record the channel your watching but you need two connections to watch one channel and record another.
Does anyone know of a connection that splits one signal into the two needed?

Oh, I see. You could always get a cheap Freeview box for watching while recording on Sky. Or you could replace your LNB and run the cable yourself if you're feeling handy.

If you're unsure of your DIY skills however, it's probably best left to a professional. ;)
