Hi
I put my Mondeo in for a service today and also occasionally there was a whistling noise from the offside rear wheel and it was getting very hot
they sorted it out but they said both rear wheels were affected and they had to replace the calipers
the total price including labour was £544.63
Is this an ok price?
Thanks

it seems a bit high, but thats main dealer prices i suppose.
was it just calipers or was it calipers, pads and discs and brake fluid change?...work permit granted!0 -
The Mk3 Mondeo does like to get thru calipers.
It would be nice if they told you before hand they were gonna replace both...0 -
As far as I was aware it was just the offside rear wheel because that's where the noise was coming from and that was the one getting hot.
looking at the bill it says rear brake pads x 1 and rear brake caliper x 2
in the service they changed the oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, oil, brake fluid, fuel line cleaner, screen wash (although I put some in that morning)
they replaced a wiper blade and replaced the handbrake cables
total time 3.8 hours
parts £302.59
Labour £171
Vat £71.04
total £544.63
they only replaced the brake pads in March....but apparently the calipers did the damage0 -
It's usually the cables on them, which makes the calipers semi seize.0

OUCH!!! I had one rear caliper replaced with the rear pads and new pads and discs on the front. just over £300.

Did they replace the hubs/bearings as well? I think they are £60 each.0 -

I hate to be pedantic, but the total of the sum of the labour comes to just £168.00
I've had issues with Ford dealer bills adding up incorrectly in the past too - and have always challenged them. They then recalculate them and come up with an entirely different resultant sum. It seems to be a case of keep arguing until you are given a price you are prepared to pay ... which in my case is never more than the sum of the individual values, but When the dealer then offers a price significantly less than those, who am I to argue?
Edit: or was the first line of labour actually £58.50? Would make sense
£45 per hour is quite good for a Ford dealer.
Part prices look ok too, ignoring the odd cheeky one (e.g screen wash)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
sorry Premier you are right...it was £58.50
I'm not sure if they are a main dealer...they are my village garage...very convenient it is as well....they gave me a runaround car while they repaired it.
now edited price0 -
screen wash (although I put some in that morning)
What is it about screen wash? Each year I take my car in for a service with a full screen wash bottle, and each year they charge me to fill it. It's only about £1.50, so I never bother challenging it, but it does pi$$ me off!I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
