I went to two different universities in 2 different decades and each one had information about budgeting.
Even the banks gave you budget planners.A_fiend_for_life wrote: »Most universities provide an IT introduction during the first couple of weeks so tuition on spreadsheets could quite reasonably be tailored to personal finance.
Like with IT introduction it is up to the student to read the information or seek advise if needed.
Oh and I was never formally given an IT introduction just some sheets with my login details on...............I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Credit 4 Life Educational Board Game
Key Stages 2-3-4
Credit 4 Life is an excellent tool to use in the classroom for Citizenship, PSHE, Mathematics and Business Studies.
Having been accredited by pfeg and curriculum referenced, the game meets the Every Child Matters Agenda targets and is a must have in your classroom.
The game will create debates whilst understanding real financial expenses that many households encounter on a daily basis.
Teach your children about credit and real life expenses!Phone Number 01538 266100 / 07817 8549040 -
I used to teach secondary PSHE many years ago and we had a module on Finance. unfortumately during the first ever OFSTED inspections we were told to cut our PSHE curriculum - funny how the govt now are slowly trying to say how important it is to discuss sex, finance etc. For info: our module on sex education was called 'Relationships' therefore covering potential domestic abuse situations. Back to finance: the kids enjoyed talking about money and I would like to think that some of the discussions and information rubbed off on them. There is a lot of useful literature out there; banks produce booklets (careful with bias- but it is a good starting point). at the end of the day -the key word for many of today's issues is 'RESPONSIBILITY' . Initially for part-time student jobs any money earned - we suggested save half and spend half. have a goal to save for - keep records. don't spend what you can't afford to lose. I could go on and on. As I age I become more and more cynical - what is it about 're-inventing the wheel .........?' This curriculum has been done before and very successfully - young people in their late teens and 20s seem to have lost out on sensible education in many ways. Education includes life skills!!0

Had to explain what different accounts were for savings, current etc granted more info could be given and it needs to be repeated at regular and frequent intervals but please don't think we teachers aren't doing anything! it is already included in PHSE or citizenship or whatever it is called - and each school uses different initials.
Very true! Anything for a quick headline. however, i do think the time constraints on current curriculum needs do hinder full coverage of very important every day issues. Banks must be made accountable for easy credit (possible changes now of course). Too little,
too late?0
