I'm trying to calculate how much I am likely to spend on petrol in a month. If anyone knows how many miles a litre a secondhand old-style Nissan micra (1.3 engine) can do?
If I travel 50 miles a week and petrol costs 98p how much will that work out a week/month.
Thanks

Milage is still worked out per gallon, despite creeping litre-isation. :rotfl:
Is it 50 miles in town or on open road? If a mixture allow £9. A bit dearer is mainly town driving, a bit cheaper if mainly open road.

Gallons? Anyhow this will be town driving? So I'll make it £12 a week on petrol then?0

Learn to 'tickle' the accelerator.
Ease off as you appraoch a junction to avoid overuse of the brakes (braking is bad - it wears the brakes and wastes fuel).
Accelerate gently.
Drive as if there was an egg on the dashboard.
Saves the heart too!

£!2 =2.69 gallon @ £4.46 per gallon (98p per litre)
200 mile devided by 2.69 = 74mpg-no chance of getting that out of an old micra espacially a petrol one0 -
It was 50 miles per week though, Gord.DFW Nerd 0350

If you really only do 50 miles a week do you really need a car? The cost of fuel, insurance, repairs, tax etc must mean that you may be better off looking to use public transport, and taxis? I bet if it was a regular trip you would get a good account deal with a local taxi firm.0

Assuming you are getting 40 mpg and there are 4.33 weeks in a month you are looking at 25 quid a month.45mpg = £22 per month0

A cab company would charge between £1 and £2 a mile, depending on where you live, plus an upfront charge.
My local cabs are £2 upfront + 1.60 a mile, so a 5 mile journey is approaching £10 (50 miles a week = 10 x 5 mile journeys)
That's £100 a week
Even with a 10% discount for account in that scenario your own car is cheapererer..0
