Hi Eon rep

I have worked that I will use a maximum of 4363 kWh of electricity and 17999 kWh of gas approx over the next year based on what I have used the past year and it will cost me £988.06 on FixOnline3.

I have since increased my insulation and draught proofing so I expect to use less but I have used these figures.

I was £36.50 in credit at my last bill and I am paying £102 per month direct debit so in a years time I will have a credit of £272.44.

I have worked out that if my direct debit is reduced to £80 per month in a years time I will have a credit of £30.44.

So if I phoned up Eon customer service and asked for my direct debit to be reduced to £80 would they do it or just say wait until the high winter bills have passed?

I have to say that my account would be over £120 in debit in April but by next October it would be back in the black by £30.44.

Also the direct debit would have to be raised to £85 next October unless prices rise by a very large amount.

I would also recommend to anyone who has recently retired, or even if you have the time, to take a part time course at their local college on spreadsheets. I never knew they could be such fun:j

As you have surmised there is the new 'zero point in April' that many suppliers have adopted. You seem to half know they will not be happy.

Why not just wait until April and make sure your debit is reduced to £82/£85 then? You can always ask but you seem to already have the objections they will have on the tip of your tongue - that's the wrong way round ;).

    Hi patty

As Kim has said, our annual review for Direct Debits is in the spring. We aim for a zero balance at this time.

Your existing arrangement will be geared to achieving this; therefore, it is most unlikely we will agree to a change in your monthly payments before this.

However, circumstances do change and we also carry out interim reviews after each quarterly bill. If your usage shows a significant change (based on actual meter readings) from when the current amount was set up then we will alter the arrangement accordingly.

Therefore, I would suggest keeping an eye on your usage and giving us a call if you feel things are changing.

In fact, if you call us now we will be happy to review your account. At least this might give you a definite decision.

Sorry I can't be more positive patty but I hope this at least answers your question. Give me a shout if I can help further.

Thanks, I will just wait until spring, I have not long finished a course on spreadsheets so of course I have been putting in my usage and running what if senarios.

Too much time on my hands, ;) I think I will either see what other courses I can do or look for a part time job:j
