Hello, in a week or two my company is looking for employ a pt person, but they want to target mums, hours to fill school times and breaks etc., but where is the best place to put an ad like this? Last time we recruited we used the job centre and got no mums at all, and we have also used a recruitment agency, but again, only older guys apply. So if you were looking for a part time job that fitted around your children where would you look first? Would you use an online site? Thank you

Can I just ask - being nosy - why are you looking to specifically target mums?
I think it's great that you're more than willing to give mums that "break" into work, even if only PT, but does it really matter who applies for the job? If they're willing and able to do the job, does it matter if the candidate is a young female with 3 kids, or an older male with no dependents?
Again, I'm just being nosy...quite curious
Perhaps highlighting in your job adverts the exact hours involved, plus information as to whether or not the job/hours is flexible, might help you reach your target audience, as it were.£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600
HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500
"3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600 :eek:0 -
Depending on the job - a card in a local post office gets local attention, or on the local gumtree.0

In the local paper with the exact hours in good print, so that mum's could think - "thats good hours, fits in with the kids"0

I would post an advert in the local childrens centres, our local one has a few jobs with ideal hours for mums advertised on its noticeboard. Ideal to be seen by mums attending baby groups etc. By putting the ad in a place where it would be mainly mums seeing it, this would cut out the applications from other types of person which you would get if you advertised in the local paper or local shop window.
Bear in mind though that by limiting the role to a 'mum' you may be missing out on an excellent candidate who is anything other than a mum.
There are a few websites that are aimed at 'jobs for mums' but they are mainly for larger companies and home-working opportunities.0 -
You shouldn't put in the advert that you are looking for a mum; just that the hours are school hours and put the ads in places where mums will see them. Otherwise, someone could easily get upset and take issue.0

There might just be a stay at home dad out there too...0

The compensation awarded for discrimination and hurt feelings in unlimited.
Be very, very careful how you proceed with this.
Personally i'd stick a linage advert in the local paper under the part time header, stating the hours, and the kind of work. DO NOT say anything along the lines of "Mother Shift", "Domestic Shift", "Suitable for Mothers"... etc as you may well find that you are defending yourself in an employment tribunal from one of these "older guys" who has the skills to do the job, but you won't employ because he's not a woman.
Think very carefully about why exactly you are considering limiting the post to a "mum" anyway."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
why not post an ad on your local netmums website?I get paid to party!:rotfl:0
