I've just found out that Powergen has different sets of rates, one for new joiners and one for people who are long term customers.
As you can guess the rate for joiners is somewhat lower that for long term customers and from what powergen has told me, there is no firm rules about how and when a joiner is move to the more costly charges, instead it happens at some point in the future, at the same time as a price increase takes place.
The key thing is that by having more than one price, sites such as uswitch will be giving totally incorrect results if they just use the new customer prices, which are the only ones that powergen are going to publish.
THE KEY THING IS THAT IF YOU CALL POWERGEN THEY WILL MOVE YOUR ACCOUNT TO THEIR PUBLISHED RATES.
