ebay + free postage + £4 postage

ive been looking on ebay and ive noticed, now that ebay have brouht in free postage/ max price
why do people sell their item at £9.99 free p+p then say UK £4 postage??

the free postage is there for a reason, and also to stop the china sellers putting 12.99 postage on a screen protector, surely these selers must abide by the rules.

and also ive seen seller complain about the free P+P because they fork out more that they get in, well if you dont want to sell itfor 99p then dont list it for 99p +free p+p
list it for 1.99 to cover exessive postage, or 3.99 if thats what you want.

Sellers 'moan' about it because it is a dumb introduction, in my opinion.

IMO, businesses are the only ones benefitting from this free p&p rule. They are in a position where they are able to buy things in bulk and therefore offer items at a lower price while still offering free postage. However, when it comes to the ordinary joe bloggs, we have to consider that we would probably have to start it at a much higher price than the power seller would, meaning that if the buyer is anything like me, they will go for the lower price, assuming feedback is good that is.

Sadly some people in life see a rule and work how to get round it rather than how to live with it. People who do this on Ebay eventually get beaten with a stick by Ebay.

Not everyone uses bulk mailing - It only takes 3 sales per day to become a Powerseller, but for bulk postage you need to be sending 5000 items per year to start getting discounts.

As above, just add the P&P cost onto the starting price and stop getting so hung up about a 10p insertion fee. It's still cheaper to list for private sellers than it was this time last year when it was 15p insertion, and 15p gallery.

But some people seem to have very short memories, and want everything handed to them on a plate for nothing.

i look at it this way:

if your selling something in a shop & by mail order, you should be charging the same price, but then able to add on the p+p for the mail order, as it is an extra service

if your only selling online, there is no choice but to have it posted, therefore you shouldnt be allowed to charge for p+p

Most of the online retailers who have high street stores sell with no additional cost for postage (HMV, Tesco, etc) which is one of the reasons the policy was introduced.

I bought a game today with "courier postage".
If it doesn't come by courier I will neg- these people !!!! me off and really should be kicked off.
Got a good price due to their stupidity and rule breaking though.

As a seller I hated the free p&p at first, to a point that I felt like giving up. However, I am now selling BN items and have put my prices up as much as I dare to help cover the cost of postage. And to be honest I feel my sales have increased considerably? My star rating has gone up and had some excellent feedback regarding the service I provided (regardless of strike!!). The increase could be down to the Christmas season, but I wonder whether it makes buyers more confident to buy.

I sell things local collection only with a note that I'm happy to arrange postage at buyer's expense.
In many cases, the postage is more than the item's value.
