Underfloor heating??? FTB

Hi,
My boyfriend and I have just bought our very own first house! (1925 end-terraced 3 bed). He would like to get underfloor heating (although we don't have a big budget).
What system is better: electric underfloor heating or the hot water system. What is better and cheaper in the long run?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Louise.

If you are looking at underfloor heating you might consider air store heat pump systems - I've no personal experience of these but they are supposed to be very efficient. You'd obviously have to do your research but if you are going to the hassle its worth looking at as an option at least. I know that when we come to do our next heating refit it will be one option we will look at.Adventure before Dementia!0

Hi Louise,
If you do a forum search on here there are lots of threads discussing the different types of UFH.
We went for electric as it was easier and cheaper to install. We have a solid floor in the kitchen and suspended wooden in the livingroom and I didnt want to go to the expense of putting in a concrete floor for wet UFH.
For 35m2 of carbon film electric UFH it cost us just over £1000 including 3 thermostats and the insulation.
As we havent moved in yet I havent been able to see how much money its actually going to cost us to heat the house!

generally wet system are cheaper to run if your on mains gas but a lot more expensive to install. Under floor heating works best with a well insulated house which a 1920's place will not be....air source...
Lots of snake oil sales man are pushing them atm. Make sure they guarantee your running costs and payout if they are not as good as they say.
Daytime electric is about three times and price of gas so need to be 'very' efficient to catch up.0 -

What will you compare it to?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
It will be difficult to tell but we currently live in a 2 bed flat that is all electric and the heating does cost a lot of money. It has crappy storage heaters though (costs £85/month in winter).
Im hoping that it wont be more expensive as it will be more efficient then the storage heaters and we have gas central heating upstairs.0 -
One estate agent told me that too many rooms with electric ufh make house difficult to sell.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

It certainly wouldnt put me off but were not planning on selling anytime soon! If youd have seen the house we bought before we renovated you'd see not much would put us off
There was no real room for radiators and this was the best option for us! If we didnt have a suspended wooden floor then i would have considered wet ufh.0
