treadmills and floorboards

Can anyone help me? I've had a treadmill delivered and the delivery men told me I would need my floor reinforcing before I could use it, I wanted to put it in the bedroom. Is this really neccessary I can't find anything on the internet to suggest I need to do this, other people i know have the treadmill in the bedroom without problems, were they just trying to scare me?

without knowing the construction of the floor and the joist layou it is not possible to give a general answer,If you are in any doubt get sheet of 'mdf' and place under the treadmill to spread the load

I guess your delivery men where a third party delivery contractor and not direct employees of the tread mill company. I acan't imagine that the manafacturers would leave something as important as telling you about flooring upgrades via the delivery driver. Also these things are designed to go in peoples homes and therefore wouldn't be so heavy that they reguire structural work to your home. They would never sell any if that was the case. I can't help thinking they are taking the P!

also, youve given no info about the treadmill
    eg. size, weight etc

can you link to a product page about it?
then also give info about the floor construction, if you know what it is

I highly doubt you will need your floor reinforcing - home use treadmills really aren't that heavy, and the deck will be desined to absorb some of the impact without transmitting it through the floor.

Anyway, people never use treamills at home, they're just for hanging clothes on aren't they? :rotfl:;)

I would'nt put a treadmill upstairs ,the vibration would be really loud ,i put ours upstairs once then moved it back downstairs to a concrete floor.

You obviously haven't tried moving a proper home treadmill then! We struggle to move ours with less than 3 people so I definately wouln't have even got our's up the stairs let alone risked it on the floor up there!

That's as good a test as any...if you can get it up there it will be fine ?

2 large adults being frisky on a bed must also make a fair old test for a floor...can't see a treadmill being that bad ? A bath full of water isn't light either but that's fine if you don't live on Coronation St.

Thanks everyone, thought it was a little strange. The treadmill weighs 75kg we did have a bit of a struggle getting it up the stairs and the noise downstairs isn't bad at all.

That's just under 12 stone. No different to an average sized bloke lying on the bedroom floor, with someone jumping up and down on top of them :)
