British Gas Bill seems low!

Hi, i'm a bit confused about my British Gas bill for this quarter and last.

I used to spend a fortune on gas, but we've got an electric shower now and this will save quite a lot of gas, but makes up for it on the elec bill.

My gas bill for this quarter is £45?! I expected it to be about £150

Look at my usage for the last few bills - i know last winter i'd have used more but it seems a huge difference. (sorry they're not really 3 monthly, think it's because i was trying to figure out how much to pay via DD for the first few)

Bill period: (Gas used this period)

  • 30th Sept 08 - 22nd Nov 08 - £81.44
  • 23rd Nov 08 - 10th Jan 09 - £125.32
  • 11th Jan - 9th Feb - £81.08
  • 10th Feb - 5th May - £82.77
  • 6th May - 17th Aug - £37.23
  • 18th Aug - 4th Nov - £45.92

Either this year i'm being extremely frugal, or last year i had a lot of hot baths

Could my meter be broken?

Why did you expect your gas bill for this summer to be greater than that you got for last winter?

Especially when BG reduced the price of their gas by 10% this year?

This bill is before or just when you started using the heating. The bill would be for mainly heating water and a gas hob possibly so I wouldn't expect it to be high.

My gas bill for 4th July till 19th September was £39.83. [Using accurate readings.]

Well maybe not quite £150 but 30th Sept - 10th Jan (just over 3 months) i paid £206.76.

I've had the heating on since beginning of October and expected it to be higher than it is for that reason.

    For the pedants:
Disclaimer: Energy companies have many tariffs, these rises are their main tariffs, some others eg. online tariffs may move at other times. The price listed is the average change, it can vary substantially with region and other factors
