I noticed this morning that A&L are pushing this software at their on-line banking customers.

Is it any good ?

I'd ask them for references to some technical reviews of it, including by their own security experts. I suspect there won't be much of a response.

I hadn't heard of it until I saw this thread in the Phones Board, about what is certainly a false positive.

A search of this forum for Trusteer or Rapport will find quite a few threads, and on balance people seem to range from reasonably happy with it to noting it uses quite a bit of resources and produces what I'd think as false positives, such as Skype.

Personally, I'd stick with the comments of Virus Bulletin until I see more info. I'm quite unimpressed by Trusteer quoting a review by the wonderfully named Okie Island Trading Company, slagging off most of the world's anti-virus brands and making out that for example McAfee and Symantec scraped up to 25% while even Kaspersky scored only 44%, using methodology rather different from most anti-virus comparison reviews, for example the independent http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Thanks for the info and the links. Its main function seems to be in protection against re-directs to spoofed sites - at least according to the info provided. I'll try it for a while to see what kind of a resource hog it is.

my mum & dad have had this from natwest, so I would hope that it was legit and their IT bods had checked it over...as it was free told m&d to try it, if it proved ineffective/resource hog/just plain carp to bin it off again
