Selling greeting cards

Hi! I was wondering if there are any moneysavers out there who sell greetings cards as a hobby or small business? I am intending to sell high quality photgraphic greetings cards - I'm not expecting it to be a cash cow but it might give me some extra pocket money.
Is the any advice people can give me regarding how to sell them successfully. I was intending to try local village shops, e-bay and possibly craft fairs. Also if anybody out there does a similar thing an idea of how much I could realistically sell per month that would be really helpful!
Thanks
SB

I do :hello:
I started with family and friends, I 'accidently' leave them on the table when people come roundNow they ring and ask me for them.
Farm shops are a good bet, also school fetes. A couple of schools near me have got craft fairs this year. Look for your local schools on google, a lot of them will have websites with lists of events.
E-bay wasn't great for single cards but I'm going to try packs soon.
Tell everybody you know - I've started carrying around a few samples so people can see them there and then. I got mr troo to take some to work and I sold quite a few there, one man he works with turned out to be involved with a charity that holds dinner dances and he's asked me to be the invitation-maker, I hardly make anything per card (in fact I was just going to charge cost price but he insisted I make something) but as there's loads of invites to make I still do OK out of it. Also they're doing NVQ's at mr troo's work at the moment, one of the tutors has a gift shop and she wants to see my stuff :T
So, word of mouth seems to work for me.shopbot wrote:I'm not expecting it to be a cash cow

You should take a look at Etsy. It's kind of like eBay except that everything is handmade. Perhaps you could try to sell a few cards on there.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

It looks like a great site - thanks for the heads-up0 -
Yes that's the site. Forgot to mention it's in dollars but PayPal is accepted so I don't see a problem.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Many thanks to all for your help.
I have now put my money where my mouth is and have made some cards and listed them ebay!!0 -
That's great :T
Let us know how you get onBulletproof0 -
Good news! A local shop is interested in stocking them which I am really pleased about as they have hundreds of cards. I have quoted them a unit price which means I will make a profit of about £1 per card. What do you think - is that about right for this type of product??0

Oh I'm really pleased for you :T That's great :j
I aim for £1 profit per card too, shops usually sell them at double what it cost them.
Someone wants to buy some of my cards, I said X amount each for sale or return, or slighty less if she bought them outright. We decided sale or return, then she told me she likes to pay for them every 3 months. I said 'oh that's a shame, I only sell if I get payment after 30 days'. She's very reliable and I trust her but I'm not waiting 3 months :rolleyes:Bulletproof0 -
Meant to say - the £1 profit is for an A6 card, if it's A5 then it's £1.50.
OK I'm getting my retail and wholesale prices mixed up here
Wholesale - Profit A6 £1, A5 £1.30
Retail - Profit A6 £1.30, A5 £1.60 - £2.00Bulletproof0 -
Thanks Troo.
I'm doing sale or return too!0
